Kate Doherty – Mauralen – is the designer / maker behind Mauralen – fused glass artist. Kate makes colourful and quirky, pretty and practical pieces of fused glass art since 2016. Larger pieces come in metal stands or framed and the rest in small wooden stands and smaller frames. Kate loves using all colours and isn’t constrained by one style of work. You are sure to find something for everyone and all budgets catered for. Commissions are always welcome

Hand drawn thistles

You can chose from a traditional thistle or triple thistles, a more contemporary black metallic (like a silver sheen) thistle or a nod to the magnificent Charles Rennie Mackintosh. These stands measure from 65mm by 100mm for the smaller stands and up to 100mm wide and 110mm tall approx. for the larger stands. The skinny stands are approx 25mm wide by 110mm tall.

The hand drawn collection uses a speciality paint for fused glass. The ‘paint’ I use is made from glass powder so, once it’s fused, it becomes a single, durable piece of glass. Here’s a personalised hand sewn gift and you can select the words you wish them to hear (and yes, sweary words are absolutely fine – just check out my other stuff… 😉) The hoop is 10 cms (about 4 inches) so you’re not going to be able to fit War and Peace on there, but if there’s a problem I’ll let you know so we can sort it out and I’ll always let you check you’re happy with the placement and general look before I start sewing.
