My name is Helen and I have lived in Cornwall for nearly 9 years now. I previously lived in Bristol doing a 9-5 job, which I hated. My boyfriend and myself both knew we had to get out of the rat race and took many lovely holidays down here in lovely Cornwall, never wanting to leave. Finally, the chance came for us to move down here and we immediately took it.
Arts and crafts are such a big part of life down here. There is so much inspiration in the beautiful countryside, beaches and coves around here.
I had been looking for a special craft for a long time but could not find the one which I really wanted to do. It was by chance that I found a day workshop in pyrography and thought I would give it a try. I loved it and thought this is for me. Being quite an earth mother I was attracted to working with wood as it is one of the most natural materials to work with.
I would describe my style as 'rustic' and 'quirky'. I work with natural wood whenever I can so the pieces are neither perfectly smooth or finely shaped but to me this is what makes them natural and beautiful. I hope you will find this too.
Pyrography is the art of burning designs or portraits into wood with fire.
